Slade Merry Xmas Everybody/ Noddy's Star On Broad St

Lee Chates "It's a bostin' Slab"

On Sunday 09/12/07 I had the pleasure of seeing Noddy Holder presented with his Star by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham Cllr Randal Brew.

This was held outside the Pitcher & Piano in Brindley Place Birmingham on the "Glam Rock" Barge which was part of the annual Broad St Xmas Canal Barge Light Parade.

The organisers of the Broad St Walk Of Stars the BID "hijacked" this xmas event meaning Noddy and his Star would be seen by thousands of people.

I had met up with the Slade Clan in All Bar One Dave Jewell, Chris Selby, Lise, Peter, Claire & Si, John & Jane Sales, John & Ed Cutler, Keith & Lee Chates and brother, Rudi & Volker who had come from Germany just to see Noddy get his star, also there was Gwen whom I hadn't seen since Sladefest 06. The Lord Mayor declared the 9th December 2007 Noddy Holder Day.

On the Tuesday before the event a press conference was held in the Malt House (a pub next to the NIA made famous by US President Clinton)

Press coverage of the event only featured the West Midlands Media:

Whilst handing out the USM Slade booklet to the crowd, some bloke came up and said "you must be Gary I have something for you" it was a limited edition Noddy/ WOS hat.

Mike Olley the Broad St Manager responsible for the Walk Of Stars

had arranged the actual star paving Slab to be placed in the Malt House pub for viewing by Slade fans, the Birmingham Mail photoshoot/ report has yet to be published, Myself, Dave Jewell, Keith & Lee Chates and John Cutler turned up for the photoshoot. This is the actual paving slab that will be laid on Broad St sometime in the very near future

Noddy Holder in the Malt House "You can save your thanks, I'll have a pint of Banks's.

It was suggested, that we make a video biog of the Nod/ Slade story for showing on the big screen, but due to the lack of space on the tow path it could not be shown.

Many thanks to DJ & CS for their hard work in putting this together.

Merry Xmas Everybody yet again this Slade classic has charted, at No 20 the highest chart placing since 1983 due to Downloads now being added to the chart, pity it wasn't last year when Slade would have made it to No 1 making a grand total of 7.

Merry Xmas to Noddy, Jim, Dave & Don, Slade Fans, all at the West Midlands Media, Mike Olley & Julie, Chas Chandler and all at USM/Salvo, Mojo and readers of this blog, 2007 has been the best year for Slade in decades.
